BRITAIN is preparing to halt the withdrawal of our remaining troops from Germany — to counter Vladimir Putin’s threat.
Defence chiefs are drawing up plans to retain bases, and our 4,000-strong military presence, on the Rhine due to close within the next two years.
They believe it is vital we maintain a quick access to Eastern Europe.
An MoD source said: “With the increasing danger posed by Russia, we have been looking at how we position more of our equipment and people closer to the potential flashpoints.
“That means increasing our military presence in Germany, as well as Poland and Estonia.”
