Fisherman mugged at knifepoint by men in an inflatable boat three miles out at sea
A fisherman has been threatened at knifepoint - while he was out at sea
A fisherman has been mugged at knife-point by two men while he was three miles out to sea.
The man, who has not been named, was fishing off Slapton Sands near Dartmouth in south Devon when the men approached his vessel in an inflatable boat.
They threatened him with a knife, cut his nets and stole his haul of plaice and Dover sole.
Cops have urged people not to buy fish on the black market as it may be the result of crime.
A Kingsbridge police spokesman said: "This morning at about 5.30am a local fisherman was threatened three miles out to sea off Slapton Sands by two men in a white inflatable.
“They had cut his nets and stolen the fish. He was threatened with a knife.
“Please don't buy any fish from unreputable sources.”
Theft of fish and fishing tackle are said to be on the rise and a growing concern, has reported.

The Angling Trust said it is aware of a “massive rise” in instances of tackle theft.
In 2015 it warned that Britain's rivers were becoming a hotbed of crime with organised gangs stealing fish on a large scale.
A statement on the Trust’s website said: “Protecting fish and fisheries from poachers and fish thieves, and increasing rod licence compliance has to be of great importance to all anglers.”
