Rather than fly the short route from Pyongyang to Singapore, via Shanghai, he flew the longer route via Beijing - cutting down on the amount of time over water.
The meeting had been due to last until Wednesday, but Kim announced he would leave hours after today's meet up, forcing Trump to do the same.
Kim plans to meet his American counterpart for up to three hours.
