A 16-year-old boy was hit three times in a drive-by shooting as he was walking home after playing basketball.

Friends of the teen said he was hit with a shower of pellets from a shotgun as he walked past a bus stop.

Pals of the victim, who lives just minutes from the scene, said he returned to the bus stop today, looking shaken and with clots of blood still behind his ear, after discharging himself from hospital.

A teenage girl, who asked not to be named, said: "The shots caught him on the back of the head, in his arm and on his back.

"He discharged himself, he still has pellets in his arm."

She said the teenager managed to run home before taking himself to hospital.

He told friends his attacker was with three others in a car.

A man, believed to be in his 30s, and a 34-year-old woman were found at the scene by the emergency services.

Both were suffering from gunshot wounds.

They were taken to a south London hospital but their conditions are not said to be serious.

The woman, who was waiting for a bus, is thought to have been an innocent bystander and was hit as the teen ran past the bus stop.

Officers from the Trident and Area Crime Command are investigating.

No arrests have been made so far.

The shocking statistics behind London's crime epidemic

MOPED crimes are on the up with an average of over fifty being committed on a daily basis. Between January and September last year there were more than 19, 385 ‘moped enabled’ crimes in the capital including thefts and robberies.

London is proving to be a hot bed for the scooter attacks which have gone up 1,000 per cent in three years across the country.

The 19,000 attacks in 2017 have risen from just 1,053 in 2014, with the bikes themselves being stolen to use in the crimes.

Police figures from 2017 showed that around 1,500 mopeds or bikes were stolen in London every month – up to 18,000 a year.

There were 35 youth homicides - a rise of 35 per cent - and an increase of 30 per cent in muggings and 18 per cent in knife crime.

Muswell Hill has also become a hotspot for moped-enabled crime, with 159 such offences in the past five years, including 87 last year.

Motorcycles have been used in crimes such as phone snatches, gem store raids and acid attacks.

The poor security of these vehicles, coupled with their ability to easily mount curbs, is thought to be behind the surge in robberies.

Last month police revealed plans to change pursuit rules to help protect officers who go after suspects on bikes.

The area continues to be sealed off.

The incident in Brixton is the latest in a worsening epidemic of violent crime in the capital.

The total tally of murder victims in London had reached 66 by May 2018 with several of them the result of shootings.

Earlier this month semi-pro boxer Oluwafemi Omosuyi, 22, was blasted in the face in Peckham, South London on Saturday night.
