Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn plunges party to a record low in donations

JEREMY Corbyn has plunged Labour to a record breaking low in party donations - leaving the struggling opposition reliant on state handouts.

Labour scraped just £1,535,218 in the first three months of the year - the lowest ever Q1 donation since records began.

In the same period last year Labour raised £2,648,315, and in 2016, £3,709,108.

The first three months of 2014 saw the party under Ed Miliband pull in £4,409,167.

Under Tony Blair in 2003 the party raised £5,487,567 in the same part of the year.

Unite the Union was Labour’s biggest donor with £450,027, followed by the GMB giving £318,673.

But they also pulled in £1.25 million from taxpayer funds given to opposition parties through Short Money.

Meanwhile the Conservatives accepted £4.7 million in donations in the first three months of 2018 and the Liberal Democrats reported £564,135.
