Joyrider steals a bus and takes it for a 40-mile jaunt before dumping it in the sea

A JOYRIDER stole a bus and drove it 40 miles before dumping it in the sea.
The thief nicked the single decker from Skegness and headed up the Lincolnshire coast to the beach at Cleethorpes.

Shocked clubbers next to the pier watched as it headed down a slipway and plunged into the water at 2.30am.
Lifeboatmen scrambled to the scene after a resident alerted police.
Crews searched for anyone who might have been on board but found no one on the beach or in the water.
Rescuer Matt McNally said: “It was almost high tide so the bus was in more than 3ft of water.

"It was a surreal moment.
"The engine was still running and the ‘not in service’ sign illuminated.”
A spokesman for Cleethorpes Coastguard said: “Due to risk of pollution from oil and diesel from the bus it was towed out of the water and back to the roadside.”

The Dennis Dart coach is owned by Red Bus, which operates a local service between Skegness and Butlin’s at the resort.
A spokesman for Humberside Police said: “We assisted the coastguard in recovering a bus located on the beach.
“Enquiries are under way to establish the circumstances leading to it being there.”
