Rolling Stones fans furious to miss start of London Stadium concert after security ban bags larger than A5 piece of paper

The legendary band was expecting to play to a crowd of more than 70,000 people, but many concert-goers were delayed to get into the London Stadium

ROLLING Stones fans were left furious after slow security saw them miss the start of the legendary band's London concert last night.

Thousands of people had flooded to London Stadium for the gig but the strict security policy caused delays of more than an hour to get inside.

According to the policy, punters were not allowed to bring bags larger than an A5 piece of paper into the Stratford venue last night.

Instead, many fans had to fork out £5 to have their bags stored - while others simply left them outside as they dashed inside for the No Filter Tour concert.

Disappointed music fans took to Twitter to voice their frustrations, with one writing: "Had a great time watching Rolling Stones at London Stadium but the policy banning bags bigger than a postage stamp is a joke.

"Ended up throwing my bag away to get in, every other person was being turned away & security had no idea what to do. Pathetic."

Another added: "Thanks for turning away my 65 year old mother who’s waited 35 years to see the Rolling Stones because her bag was 1 inch larger than a5. I’m sure her glasses case posed a real big security risk".

Many punters had paid £400 for standing tickets at the front - making the disappointment of missing the concert even worse.

One wrote: "Great night but we missed Liam due to the bag policy and was charged £5! Poor that bag policy wasn’t communicated and to miss part of the evening when the ticket price was so high."

Others pointed out that while security was important, the situation could have been handled better.

The bag policy for the Rolling Stones tour

A bag policy has been put in place for the Rolling Stones' No Filter Tour.

As part of the policy, fans were advised  not to bring any type of bag - with only small clutch bags smaller than a A5 piece of paper to be allowed into venues.

Other prohibited items include:

  • No weapons, including studded jewellery
  • No alcohol
  • No glass
  • No flares
  • No cans
  • No food
  • No selfie sticks

One person wrote on Twitter: "The staff at London Stadium were really unpleasant and turned away older people who needed their small bags for glasses and medication in.

"Even when they put their empty rolled up bag in a see through Merch bag they did not let them in.

A spokesman for the stadium said that it was a "tour-wide policy" and nothing to do with the venue.

He said tickets carried the warning and buyers had been emailed twice.

AEG, the local promoter, said in a statement that the safety of fans were a priority, saying: "Security conditions apply with regards to the size of bags that fans can bring to the concerts.

"Seventy thousand people attended the concert tonight with approximately 750 fans using the left luggage facility.

"Whilst any delay on entry is unwanted, we hope fans understand that the safety of everyone is of the utmost importance."
