FREYA Lewis has been praised for raising a whopping £40,000 for the hospital that saved her life after she was hurt in the Manchester Arena bombing in 2017.
We take a look at the inspirational teenager who is now helping others recover from the atrocity which saw 22 people brutally killed at an Ariana Grande concert.
Who is Freya Lewis?
Freya Lewis had been attending an Ariana Grande concert at Manchester Arena on May 22, 2017, when a suicide bomber killed 22 people and left at least 64 fans injured.
Freya suffered multiple fractures, lacerations and burns from being hit by shrapnel and was unconscious in hospital.
The blast also killed one of her best friends, Nell Jones, 14.
Freya was at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital for five weeks and had to undergo five operations in 11 days.
After spending three months in a wheelchair, she was back on her feet and she has been busy raising the sum for the hospital.
What did Freya do to raise the money?
Freya ran the 2.5k-long Junior Great Manchester Run on May 20, 2018.
She joined 30,000 people including Sir Mo Farah for the charity run in the city a year after the attack.
Freya and her sister Georgia presented the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital with a cheque for £24,187 just before Christmas 2017, with money raised through a JustGiving page set up by her family.
The page has raised over £20,000.
Why did she win The Young Fundraiser Award?
Freya received The Young Fundraiser Award from former One Direction star Louis Tomlinson after raising £40,000 for the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital
Spending three months in a wheelchair, she then got back on her feet and has since been busy raising the sum for the hospital.
Freya continues to be a regular visitor to the hospital as an outpatient and is set to undergo further surgery.
