Meghan Markle released a heartbreaking statement via Kensington Palace on May 17 - just two days before her Windsor Castle wedding.
The tone of Meghan's statement seemed downcast.
It was recently revealed she was "left in tears" over the drama surrounding her dad's involvement in the wedding.
Meghan, 36, said: "Sadly, my father will not be attending our wedding.
"I have always cared for my father and hope he can be given the space he needs to focus on his health.
"I would like to thank everyone who has offered generous messages of support.
"Please know how much Harry and I look forward to sharing our special day with you on Saturday."
What did Kensington Palace previously say on behalf of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry?
Kensington Palace issued a statement on behalf of the couple after news broke that Thomas Markle would no longer be attending the wedding.
A spokesman said: "This is a deeply personal moment for Ms Markle in the days before her wedding.
"She and Prince Harry ask again for understanding and respect to be extended to Mr Markle in this difficult situation."
The palace’s statement came just hours after TMZ revealed Thomas Markle would not be attending the wedding having suffered a “heart attack”.
It has since been reported that Thomas Sr's heart surgery was "successful".
What did Thomas Markle say?
Thomas admitted he had been paid to pose for staged paparazzi pictures which sold for £100,000.
He said he did not want to embarrass either his daughter or the royals in the wake of his confession.
On the Monday before the wedding TMZ reported that Thomas had suffered a "heart attack" and pulled out of the ceremony.
Meghan's father said he fell ill a week prior and had now realised he might be too ill to make the trip.
On the evening on May 14 he said he was going to check back into hospital after suffering more chest pains.

What did Samantha Markle say?
Meghan’s half-sister said the photos were taken to counteract the negative publicity surrounding her father in recent months.
Samantha Markle tweeted: "The bad press over my father doing staged photos is my fault.
"The media was unfairly making him look bad so I suggested he do positive photos for his benefit and the benefit of the royal family.
"We had no idea he would be taken advantage of. It was not for money.”
