Yoselyn Ortega has now been convicted for their murders. Read on for more details...
Who is Yoselyn Ortega?
Yoselyn Ortegga, 55, was the nanny of six-year-old Lucia Krim and her brother Leo, 2.
Ortega was born in Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic, before moving to America and becoming a US citizen.
Manhattan Supreme Court heard Ortega suffered from hallucinations and psychotic episode from a young age, The Cut magazine reported.
After she moved her son to New York, from Dominican Republic, Ortega struggled financially because she enrolled him in a private school, the Washington Post reported.
What did Ortega do?
Ortega began to babysit for Kevin and his wife Marina Krim as they were new to New York and needed an "extra pair of hands".
But Ortega began to resent her employers.
On October 25, 2012, Ortega stabbed Lucia more than 30 times, and Leo was stabbed five times.
Marina discovered her children's bodies stacked in the bathtub.
She told the hearing that she came home to a quiet apartment, darkened but for the light in the back bathroom, where she found the children and Ortega, who had stabbed herself in a failed suicide attempt.
Ortega told the New York city court "My life is in the hands of God", after she was found guilty of murder.
