Schuh made us ‘moo’ with a bag on our head during job interview
A-level student Dom Wright, 17, took part in the 'degrading and humiliating' ice breaker in a bid to win a sales role with the footwear giant
JOB applicants turning up for an interview with footwear giant Schuh had to put bags on their heads and make farmyard noises.
A-level student Dom Wright, 17, took part in the “degrading and humiliating” ice breaker in a bid to win a sales role.
He said: “I got there and all 25 of us were given a bag and an animal we had to pretend to be. They said I had to be a cow.
“We had to make the noises until we found the other person in the room who had been given the same animal.
“Others were pretending to be horses and chickens. It was bizarre, really awkward. I didn’t see what it had to do with the job.”
No individual questions were asked in the two-hour interview at Sheffield’s Meadowhall shopping centre. Dom was later told he had not got the job.

Mum Tracey, 52, added: “It was humiliating and degrading. We still have no idea what the purpose of the exercise was.
“It doesn’t have any relevance to working in a shop.”
A Schuh spokesman said: “We are appalled that this ice breaker was used and do not condone it. We often use group interviews. Within these our store management teams are encouraged to use ice breakers to put candidates at ease.
“Stores are issued with a list of pre-approved tasks.
“In this case the store attempted to be creative and used their own task. We’ve opened an investigation.”
