Stephen Lawrence suspect Jamie Acourt was ‘living in one of Barcelona’s trendiest areas in luxury apartment’
CAPTURED Stephen Lawrence suspect Jamie Acourt was living the high life in a luxury Barcelona apartment while on the run.
The 41-year-old, who was snared by cops on Friday over his alleged involvement in a multi-million pound drugs ring, was reportedly living under the alias Simon Alfonzo.
Acourt is understood to have been living in Diagonal Mar - one of Barcelona's trendiest areas - boasting lavish high-rise apartments.
The area also offers top-class hotels, office blocks, conference centres and a massive shopping centre with a Zara and H&M and an 18-screen cinema
The fugitive, who was sporting a man bun, was swooped on by cops while enjoying a meal with a pal after a session at the gym on Friday afternoon.
He has reportedly been living in Barcelona for most of the two years he was on the run after fleeing the UK in 2016.
He is now believed to be languishing in jail near Barcelona after agreeing to be extradited at a court hearing on Saturday - although his return to Britain is believed to be imminent.
Police seized a false passport from Acourt bearing his Mediterranean-sounding name, El Mundo reported today.
It is not clear what nationality he was using but when he was scalped, he tried to bluff that he was an Italian tourist in an attempt to dodge justice.
But officers, who had been watching him for days, were sure they had their man — and led him away "handcuffed and head down".
Acourt was one of five men named as suspects after Stephen, 18, was knifed to death in a racist attack at a bus stop in Eltham, South East London, in 1993.
Two friends, Gary Dobson and David Norris, were finally convicted in 2012 and given life terms.
