DONALD Trump should be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, Boris Johnson insisted.
He reckoned the US President deserves the top accolade if he manages to “fix” the hotspots of Iran and North Korea.
The Foreign Secretary also urged Mr Trump not to scupper a deal with Tehran over its nuclear weapons programme.
Mr Johnson said: “I don’t see why he is any less of a candidate for the Nobel Peace Prize than Barack Obama.”
He launched a charm offensive in Washington to try and save the agreement.
The Foreign Secretary told Sky News: “If he can fix North Korea and if he can fix the Iran nuclear deal then I don’t see why he is any less of a candidate for the Nobel Peace Prize than Barack Obama, who got it before he even did anything.”
Mr Obama was awarded the prize in 2009, less than a year after entering office.
Mr Johnson met with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo during his two-day trip.
On Mr Trump’s favourite TV show Fox & Friends yesterday, Mr Johnson urged the President not to “throw the baby out with the bathwater”.
Mr Trump has threatened to rip up the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action signed by the US, China, Russia, Germany, France, Britain and Iran.
Under the deal Tehran has limited its nuclear programme to peaceful research in exchange for an easing of economic sanctions.

He said: “If you do that you have to answer the question what next? What if the Iranians do rush for a nuclear weapon?”
Diplomats have been working for weeks to try and save the 2015 agreement.
UK ambassador Sir Kim Darroch said: “We think we’re making progress.”
