Does the Royal Wedding clash with the FA Cup Final?

Fans of the royals and the FA Cup Final will be relieved to know that the two events will not clash.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are due to tie the knot at midday on May 19, but the football showpiece doesn't kick-off until 5.15pm.

The wedding ceremony at 12pm at Windsor Castle will be followed by a carriage procession through the town at 1pm.

An FA spokesman previously said: "May 19 promises to be a wonderful day with such a special royal occasion being followed by English football’s showpiece.”

Will Prince William attend the wedding and the Cup Final?

As president of the Football Association, Prince William attends the Cup Final every year to dish out the trophy to the eventual winners.

This year, however, could prove tricky.

In theory, the second in line to the throne could attend both events, but Kensington Palace confirmed today that the Duke would not be attending.

A spokesman said: "The Duke of Cambridge will not be attending the FA Cup final due to his responsibilities as best man at his brother's wedding."

Ray Wilkins' widow Jackie will  to the winners at Wembley.

Wilkins played for both cup finalists Manchester United and Chelsea.

The UK will benefit from the two events being broadcast to an estimated 2.5billion global TV audience.

Expert David Haigh, of Brand Finance, said: “You are looking at it being worth between £500million to £1billion.

“Meghan and Harry are exceptionally popular.

"We had 350,000 tourists for the last royal wedding, and 800,000 for the Diamond Jubilee in 2012."
