PRINCE Philip has given the thumbs up to his favourite real ale maker.

The Windsor & Eton Brewery has been granted a prized Royal Warrant despite running for only eight years.

For the past five, staff have been dropping off bottles at Windsor Castle.
Philip, 96, has loved ale ever since his days in the Royal Navy.

He regularly has a bottle as a nightcap while the Queen, 92, sips a glass of bubbly.

A source said: “He’s been really taken with the Windsor & Eton range. The Queen doesn’t touch the stuff.”

The Duke and the Queen have both been introduced to the brewery’s Shire work horses Major and Roger who do their deliveries.

It is located in the shadows of the royal residence.

But this week the brewery received the surprise news that they have received a Royal Warrant for their services to the Duke.

It comes just weeks after they launched Harry & Meghan’s Windsor Knot which was an ale to celebrate their royal couples’ wedding inside Windsor Castle on May 19.

They add that Harry & Meghan’s Windsor Knot is 'the only royal wedding beer using barley grown locally on the Royal Farms right here in Windsor'

Brewery boss Will Calvert said: “Working with all our local suppliers and customers including the Royal Household is a real privilege.

“With this award comes responsibility.

“We’re only ever as good as the quality of our last pint of beer and how we treated our last customer.”
