COPS have released CCTV footage showing a teen girl cowering behind a wall as she runs from a gang of thugs who later beat her up.

The 15-year-old tries to hide but was later caught by the gang of men and beaten with baseball bats.

The attacked happened in February but police have now released the footage in a bid to track down those responsible.

The recording shows the girl running from the yobs and jumping over a wall where she lies down to hide in Tipton, West Midlands on February 12.

The men stand to wait for a few seconds while looking for her then are seen walking away carrying baseball bats.

The young girl then gets up and walks away.

Moments later she is attacked by men with baseball bats.

She is left with serious injuries and taken to hospital.

Sandwell Police posted the video online with a message appealing for help.

It said: "Officers are appealing for information after a teenager was attacked near to Aaron Manby Court in Tipton earlier this year.

";The 15-year-old was set upon by a group of men armed with baseball bats on 12 February.

"The attack happened at around 9.30pm. The teen was left with serious injuries and taken to hospital for treatment.

"Work has been on-going to trace the offenders who are reportedly aged in their 20's. Officers believe it is likely they live in the Tipton area and were driving a silver colour VW Golf on the day of the attack. Do you know who might be responsible?"

They are particularly keen to talk to people who may have posted on Twitter or Facebook at the time of the attack.

They said: "At the time a lot of local people tweeted and shared information about the attack on social media - we're appealing for anyone with information of who witnessed what happened to get in touch with police on 101."
