Snooty hipsters have finally taken things too far… with these CHARCOAL VEGAN CROISSANTS

HIPSTERS keen to turn anything multi-coloured or reinvent an established flavour have got their trendy mitts onto croissants.

The hype for shoving some charcoal into anything that will take it has now spread to the delicious buttery French breakfast staple.

Amy Charlotte Kean, an author, snapped some "charcoal activated vegan croissants" after spotting the blackened pastries in a London cafe.

She tweeted: "I feel like this might be a bit much, even for East London."

Although the continental classic might look a bit more off putting in this state, it does mean that vegans can enjoy the tasty treats - assuming they are indeed still tasty.

Stunned followers expressed their shock at the new version of the trusted croissant.

One person said simply: "Oh good grief."

While another added: "'Oi Barry, what we doin' with this burnt batch?'

"'Hang on Dave, I've got an idea'."

An unconvinced person on Twitter said: "If you have to put up a sign saying 'tastes better than it looks' you know it's going to be a hard sell."

The unusual croissants were found at Coco Di Mama, who said of their new product: "We are so excited to bring you a Charcoal-Activated Vegan Croissant!

"It's quite an unusual looking item, but we can promise you that it 100 per cent tastes better than it looks.

"Unlike a regular croissant there is no butter.

"The key ingredients are sunflower margarine, soy and barley flour, activated charcoal/carbon, sugar and lemon flavouring.

"The charcoal in the croissant helps to detoxify any poisons or toxins in your body, for example, alcohol."

What other wacky fads have been brought in by hipsters?

  • Hipsters take their food very seriously, and especially like to reinvent classics into something brightly coloured or with a new an unexpected flavour.
  • They have recently transformed bagels into rainbow multi-coloured breakfast bread, decanted cocktails into mason jars and set up cafes solely dedicated to things such as cereal.
  • Anything Artisanal tends to go down well with hipsters, especially if it can be served in a jar of some kind.
  • Staples such as beer and doughnuts have been commandeered, becoming craft beer and doughnuts full of matcha green tea custard.
  • And while hipsters seem to be on a constant search for new and improved dishes, the largest factor in the process appears to be how Instagram friendly the final product will be.

Last year we reported how a hipster theatre company was slammed for attacking working class Londoners with a "Cockney-themed" dinner - featuring pregnant chavs in tracksuits.

Zebedee Productions put out adverts for its Christmas "dining experience" that showed a wheeler dealer selling watches out of his coat and a glaring thug in an England shirt.

And we revealed Britain's most hipster school where pupils have no exams, no uniform and take lessons in "finding their real life passion" just three days a week in a yurt.

Pupils at The Green House Education Project in Bath, Somerset, spend their time playing outside and wearing what they like.
