Who is Matthew Moseley?

Moseley, 50, blasted Lee Holt in the chest then passed the gun to son Thomas, 14, saying he was too young to be jailed.

Mr Holt, 32, had turned up at Moseley’s home with his partner Kate Phelan and her teenage son, also 14, after the boys had several school fights.

Prosecutor Robert O’Sullivan QC said: “Matthew Moseley opened the door and fired the shotgun once. He immediately handed the shotgun to his son, Thomas, who was inside the house.”

Both were initially arrested on suspicion of murder in Oswaldtwistle, Lancs.

What did son Thomas tell cops?

Thomas was originally arrested alongside his father on suspicion of the murder of Lee Holt.

But the teenager told cops: “My dad had the gun. He opened the door and as Lee shouted at him, dad shot him.”

He added his father turned to him and said: “Tell them you’ve done it because you can’t get done.”

The schoolboy said his mum saw him with the gun and blamed her son, saying: “Why didn’t you at least shoot him in the f***ing leg?”

Moseley and Thomas were later recorded in a police van.

The father told Thomas he was a minor and “couldn’t go to jail”.

He replied: “Dad, please just tell them so I can go home.”

Moseley initially tried to claim the shooting was an accident and never mentioned that his hand was on the gun in nine police interviews.

Preston crown court heard Moseley was also recorded telling his wife Julia: “I wasn’t even f***ing aiming. I just picked it up and it just went bang.”

How long has Matthew Moseley been jailed for?

Matthew Moseley denied the murder but was found guilty.

He was sentenced to a minimum of 26 years in jail at Preston Crown Court on May 8, 2018.

Detective Chief Inspector Jill Johnson from Lancashire Police said Moseley's sentence was "nothing less than he deserved".
