Is the M60 closed?

Highways England say the anti-clockwise section of the motorway between junction 19 and junction 18 is now open.

Highways England tweeted: "All lanes open and closures removed following clearance of the serious collision on the anti-clockwise between J19 and J18. Delays remain but starting to clear steadily. Have a safe journey."

The M60 was closed until 11am after a serious accident with police working the scene.

Anti-clockwise traffic had been diverted off the M60 at junction 19 and back on to the motorway at junction 18.

The incident happened at 3.30am on April 17.

What was the accident at junction 19?

A man died and two others were seriously injured after a three-car smash on the M60 motorway in the early hours of this morning.

Police are investigating the tragedy, scouring the scene for clues as the two other men injured in the crash are treated in hospital.

Authorities were called to the M60, between the junctions 18 and 19, about 3.30am to reports of a crash.

Once there, they found one man had died at the scene with another man suffering from a critical head injury.

The third man is also suffering a serious injury.

According to local media, two of the vehicles were left in one lane, with the third overturned.

Motorists have this morning been warned of serious delays after the crash.

Sergeant Danny Byrne, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “First and foremost I would like to extend my sincere condolences to the family of the man who tragically died this morning.

"This is a devastating time for them and we are working to provide them with support from specially trained officers."

What have Greater Manchester Police said?

Greater Manchester Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash, with Sergeant Byrne saying: "We are going to be conducting enquiries at the scene for some time this morning and the anti-clockwise carriageway remains closed.

"I would advise motorists to avoid the area as much as possible."

Highways England have now confirmed the motorway closures have all been lifted, but delays may still continue.
