Banned ‘zombie knives’ selling on eBay for just £8 as knife slaughter cripples London
'Zombie knives' are still being sold on eBay for as little as £8 despite a ban on the lethal blades
DEADLY ‘zombie knives’ banned in the UK are being sold on eBay for as little as £8.
The so-called blades, inspired by horror movies, can be bought from sellers in Spain who then ship them over to the UK.
Despite a crackdown on the sale of knives and an eBay ban on the sale of all knives to UK customers apart from cutlery, several weapons were found on the internet site, with one 7.5cm blade selling for just £8.50.
An unnamed gang member from Woolwich told the that it was “easy” to get the knives on eBay.
He said: “If you buy them from Spain as kitchen equipment, they’ll ship to your address.
“There’s a list of countries they won’t ship to but the UK isn’t one of them, so it’s easy to get hold of one.
"We all know the damage they can do.”
London is currently in the grip of a stabbing epidemic.
At least 35 people have been fatally stabbed in London since the beginning of the year.
Met Police records show 37, 443 recorded knife offences and 6,694 recorded gun offences across the UK in the year up to September 2017.
In London, the problem was even more pronounced than the rest of the country, with 12,980 knife crimes taking place in the capital - 2,452 more than the equivalent year.
Four teenagers were stabbed to death in London on New Year's Eve alone, and 22 were killed in March - meaning the capital now has a higher murder rate than New York
A 15-year-old boy was left with horrific injuries when he was slashed with a deadly ‘zombie knife’ at the Notting Hill Carnival in 2016.
The boy was attacked by two men with a 12-inch zombie knife during the annual event in West London.
Two other people were also attacked by the same men using the knife.
Jordan Clarke, 20, and Eddie Mobele, 24, were later found guilty of the attack and were locked up for 15 years each.
Drug dealer Abdirahman Hashi brandished a triple-bladed ‘zombie’ dagger at detective Graham Budd and plunged it into his shoulder as he tried to detain him in Cardiff last September.
In the court case against Hashi Judge Eleri Rees said: “This is one of the most vicious weapons I have ever seen in court.”
Hashi was given a 14-year extended sentence.
Anyone buying a knife online will soon be banned from having it sent to a residential address.
New legislation will also make it illegal to possess zombie knives and knuckledusters in private – or any knife on further education premises.
A spokesman for eBay told the Star: “All illegal weapons are banned from eBay UK. Customer safety is our number one priority, and the eBay Trust and Safety Team scour the site each day to take action on any items of concern.”
