BA steward has been jailed for 50 days after arriving drunk for a flight
A BA steward has been jailed in Norway for 50 days after arriving “drunk” for a flight.
Terry Freemantle, 30, was working for Norwegian Air when he failed a breath test before a morning flight from Oslo to Gatwick last July.
A random test before the 9.40am take-off found he had 60mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood — three times the airline limit and six times Norway’s strict drink-drive law.
After his arrest, Freemantle, left, of New Addington, South London, resigned from the low-cost airline.
But he enrolled on a cabin crew course with British Airways without telling them of his arrest and graduated in November.
He has served on flights to Nigeria, South Africa, Singapore and Australia.
This week Freemantle admitted being over the limit when he appeared at Upper Romerike court near Oslo.
He asked judge Fredrik Rieber-Mohn: “I have a new job — is it possible for me not to go to jail or to go to jail in England?”
But he was told: “You have to do your time in Norway.”
British Airways sources suggest Freemantle is likely to be sacked after an investigation.

BA is considering a bid to take over Norwegian.
