THE Queen has revealed Prince Philip, 96, is "getting on very well" as he learns to walk again on his new hip in hospital.
Her Majesty's comments today came as Princess Anne visited her father after his successful surgery ten days ago.
Her Royal Highness has not yet visited her recuperating husband, who is known to prefer no fuss.
But his daughter, The Princess Royal, spent 50 minutes at the private King Edward VII hospital in Central London after the planned surgery.
The Queen also gave an update telling a well-wisher in Windsor "he said he's getting on very well" when asked about Philip's recovery.
The head of state's comment suggests that although she has not visited her husband, they have been in contact.
The poorly Prince is known to dislike being fussed over - and has previously asked close family to stay away.
In previous stays at the private central London hospitals doctors have ordered him top rest, but have allowed him to speak to family over the phone.
After his latest op Buckingham Palace said the duke was in "good spirits" and "progressing satisfactorily".
A hip replacement usually takes around 60 to 90 minutes and is carried out under general anaesthetic, although an epidural, where the lower body is numbed, can be used, according to the website NHS Choices.
At the time of the operation Buckingham Palace said the surgery to replace the joint had been a success and Philip was "comfortable and in good spirits".
The prince announced in May that he was retiring from most public duties after decades of royal service.
Philip has suffered from heart disease and other ailments in recent years, but has generally remained in good health.
He and Elizabeth celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in November.
The Queen has praised her husband for his devotion and long years of service, calling him the rock she depends on.
