AN US aircraft carrier is on its way and a guided missile destroyer is reportedly lurking off the coast of Syria amid calls for revenge for Assad's poison gas attack.
It comes as Donald Trump renewed his vow to decide on his military response to the outrage which left scores dead “probably by the end of today".
The US President said there was little question Syria was responsible for the apparent weekend chemical attack, although the government of President Bashar Assad denies it and its backer Russia claims it is "fake news".
Trump said: "To me there's not much of a doubt, but the generals will figure it out."
As he spoke a US Navy destroyer, the USS Donald Cook, was underway in the eastern Mediterranean after completing a port call in Cyprus.
The Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer is armed with Tomahawk cruise missiles, the weapon of choice in attack one year ago on an airfield in Syria following an alleged sarin gas attack on civilians.
Meanwhile USS Harry Truman aircraft carrier strike group was on its way to the Syrian coast armed with cruise missiles and an array of warplanes.
Yet it emerged today Russia has started jamming US military drones operating over Syria seriously affecting America's ability to strike targets.
And to add to the allies woes Russia has deployed its accurate S-400 missile air defence systems in key locations.
There have also been unconfirmed reports of the systems being deployed around the Assad’s presidential palace in Damascus.
