Teenage girl rushed to hospital after being stabbed in Greater Manchester as 14-year-old arrested over attack

A TEENAGE girl was stabbed in a shocking broad daylight attack yesterday afternoon.

The 15-year-old schoolgirl was rushed to hospital with at least one stab wound in her torso after being knifed in Oldham town centre.

Cops arrested a 14-year-old girl over the attack, reports the Manchester Evening News - she was taken into custody last night to be quizzed by officers.

No more details about the victim or her condition since her admission to hospital have been released.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the stabbing.

A spokesman said: “Officers attended and a female aged 15 had injuries consistent with a stabbing and she was taken to hospital with serious injuries.”

The attack took place just after 4pm near to a row of shops and a small patch of grass.

The area was cordoned off last night as police investigated.

Jackie Walsh : “What are children doing carrying knives? Someone is always going to be hurt.”

Ian Barber said: “It’s a crazy world, children shouldn’t resort to this.”

It comes after the rate of fatal stabbings and shootings in London has soared to overtake that of New York's this year.

At least 35 people have been fatally stabbed in London since the beginning of the year.

Met Police records show 37, 443 recorded knife offences and 6,694 recorded gun offences across the UK in the year up to September 2017.

In London, the problem was even more pronounced than the rest of the country, with 12,980 knife crimes taking place in the capital - 2,452 more than the equivalent year.
