A MUM-of-three is fighting for her life after being stabbed outside a Coventry church with a “sword” by a man on a bike.
The woman, believed to be in her 30s, remains in a critical condition after suffering stomach wounds in the attack at 3.15am yesterday.
A 26 year-old man from Coventry was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder last night and is currently in police custody for questioning.
Police have asked anyone with information to come forward.
Local resident Amanuel Mebrahtu said: “This is so unusual. The community is very nice and quiet. We respect each other. People are shocked.”
The victim — believed to be an Eritrean woman in her 30s — was among around 400 people who attended an early hours service to mark the beginning of Orthodox Easter Sunday.
The area outside the church was cordoned off yesterday as forensic teams carried out their examinations.
Other locals expressed their shock at the news.
Stephanie Rush said: “How awful what kind of world are we living in now.”
And Valerie Worwood added: “Disgusting. Not safe to walk or pray anywhere nowadays. Hope she gets better soon.”
Two months ago, police and fire crews were called to a major incident at house opposite the church when a cannabis farm caught fire.
A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: "A man has been arrested in connection with the stabbing of a woman outside a church in Coventry.
