A SERIAL killer in China dubbed ‘Jack the Ripper’ has been sentenced to death for the rape and murder of 11 women and children.

Gao Chengyong, 54, was likened to the infamous London murderer due to the way he mutilated the bodies of his victims, often cutting their breasts, reproductive organs, ears and hands off.

His youngest victim was just eight years old.

Gao would target women dressed in red during his 14 year terror spree which started in 1988.

He was arrested in 2016 after a DNA test linked to a minor crime committed by an uncle.

Chinese media reported that, when his arrest finally ended the 28-year shadow looming over the city of Baiyin, local residents celebrated with fireworks.

Gao confessed to all the killings and is said to have remembered in detail the precise time and place each one was carried out.

He had followed his youngest victim  home, raped her, strangled her to death, left her in her bedroom closet, where she was found by her mum.

The body of one woman, Cui Jinping, was found with 22 stab wounds on 30 November 1998.

Gao, who was rumoured to have targeted "long-haired females dressed in red", reportedly showed no remorse when investigators interrogated him following his arrest in 2016.

His "only emotional moment" was when he asked: "Will my case affect my children?"

He has two sons and had been married 30 years upon his arrest.

The original Jack the Ripper is believed to have murdered and mutilated at least five women in and around Whitechapel, London in 1888.
