WHAT ABOUT THE OTHERS?

Calls for John Worboys to be investigated over DOZENS more rapes so ’85 other victims’ can get justice

BLACK cab rapist John Worboys should be charged with MORE sex attacks, lawyers for a number of victims have said.

The 60-year-old sex beast today had his bid for freedom overturned in the High Court but now victims and campaigners are demanding dozens of other claims against him be re-investigated.

Kim Harrison, a specialist abuse lawyer from Slater and Gordon, which represented 11 women – three of who were part of Worboys’ original criminal trial – told Sun Online investigators needed to go back and look at the dozens of other cases for which he was not convicted.

She said: “I refuse to believe that not one of those cases don’t meet the standards for prosecution.

“We can only have confidence in the justice system if we know that every possible case that met the threshold was examined.

“I’m not suggesting that every single case meets the threshold, I just find it incredible to believe that none of them do.”

Worboys was convicted of attacking 12 women in 2009 but since he was jailed a further 85 have come forward to claim he assaulted them. None of the claims has resulted in a prosecution.

One of the women who brought the challenge against Worboys, known as only DSD, revealed how cops and CPS did not use her claims at the time as part of the prosecution against the sex fiend.

She said she believes the 60-year-old serial sex attacker could have been prosecuted for the allegations she made against him and will continue her fight to get him charged.

She added: “At some point I do need to draw a line under all this, I can’t carry on for the next 10 to 15 years and keep going into court over various things.

“That is why I was keen to prosecute on my case, because that would give me the ultimate closure and I would be able to get on with my life.

“But having said that, I am not quite ready to give up just yet.”

WHY WEREN'T THEIR VOICES HEARD?

A number of victims of John Worboys were left outraged after the Parole Board’s decision to release the black cab fiend was released.

They say they were assured Worboys would almost certainly be ruled unfit for release after serving his minimum tariff of eight years.

Officers told victims that life sentences were often reduced, but the indeterminate sentence of imprisonment for public protection would mean he would be reassessed after eight years with no hope of release.

Given Worboys’ crimes were spread over more than half a decade — and because he showed no remorse in court — the authorities assured victims he would be ruled unfit for release.

Other victims have come forward to authorities since he was initially jailed in 2009.

The Crown Prosecution Service has since said that the remaining complaints against Worboys did not pass the “evidential test”.

Explaining how she was told her case would not be one of those Worboys’ faced in court, she added: “It’s not logistically possibly to get all of those in court, so they reduced it down to the strongest cases so he would get the longest sentence.”

But the Crown Prosecution Service has consistently refused to further examine the claims against Worboys, saying that the cases did not pass the evidential test.

The woman further pushed for other victims to be allowed to have their statements submitted to the Parole Board in any other future hearing.

She added: “Anybody who hasnt come forward I would like them to speak out.”

Anger was sparked earlier this year when the parole board gave the go-ahead for Worboys’ release.

DSD’s solicitor Harriet Wistrich said there had been other “really strong cases” but that they were not prosecuted – today revealing she had been contacted by “in excess of 10 women” who claim to have been victims of Worboys since proceedings began.

Ms Wistrich said the details had already been passed to police, who were looking into the fresh allegations.

Judge orders Parole Board to rethink release of John Worboys from prison as chairman is forced to resign

A CPS spokesperson said: “We would provide charging advice in the event of any further matters being referred to us by police.”

Two of Worboys’ victims today revealed their relief at knowing he would not be back on the streets, saying: “I can get on with my life again without looking over my shoulder.”

Three High Court judges today ripped up a Parole Board decision to order the monster’s release.

It found that the board should have “undertaken further inquiry into the circumstances of his offending”.

Worboys, 60, now faces languishing in his cell at a top security prison dubbed “Monster Mansion” until an entirely new panel meets to hear his case.

But it is likely to be months away – and this time almost certainly with a judge in charge.

And in a stunning victory for press freedom, the High Court also backed The Sun’s bid to reveal details of the top-secret Parole Board that controversially cleared his release.

The judges said a secretive system protecting one of Britain’s worst-ever sex offenders was unlawful because it breached the principles of open justice.

The ruling means controversial Parole Board rules which have previously stopped ANY details of its hearings from being disclosed will now be torn up forever.

Instead Justice Secretary David Gauke will be forced to draw up new guidelines allowing the public the right to know more about how our most dangerous cons are set free.
