Mum’s fury after Wilko cushions ‘stain her sofa and brand new radiator’

Mum-of-two Alison Urma was fuming after the Wilko cushions stained both her radiator and sofa - and the shop offered PAINT as an apology

A MUM-of-two has slammed Wilko after claiming their red cushions ruined her brand new sofa and radiator.

Alison Ursa, from Salford, was fuming after putting the Faux Mongolian Red cushion to dry on a radiator left her with red stains and later noticed her sofa arm had been dyed where an unwashed cushion was placed.

“Obviously I was livid, angry and quite upset,” said Ms Ursa, a customer service advisor.

“Not only did they damage my radiator which is new and a permanent fixture in my home but they have never been painted before.

“As for my sofa, it goes without saying that they are highly expensive pieces of furniture and the arm of a fabric sofa is very difficult to clean in a way that would remove the dye."

The 42-year-old complained to both customer services and in her local branch at the Manchester Arndale shopping centre who refunded the cost of the cushions, but the mum said Wilkos' solution was "wholly dissatisfying".

She said: "The solution they offered was wholly dissatisfying because they offered a miniscule tin of paint and were very dismissive of my feelings towards their product.

“They suggested painting my radiator and told me that the dye transfer to my sofa was my fault and made me feel very powerless.

"The last email I received basically stated that they will offer no gesture of good will, they will not pay for my sofa to be professionally cleaned and that before buying them I should have read a very small label stitched onto the inside of the cover.

"Which I feel to any reasonable person is absurd to suggest that I should have realised these covers cannot be placed on light coloured furniture," she said.

A Wilko spokesperson said: “At wilko we love helping families make the most of their homes with bold statements so were very sorry to hear about this customer’s experience with our Faux Mongolian Red cushions.

“We can confirm that the product’s colourfastness has been approved by an independent test lab and, that the product label does warn against placing on light or leather surfaces as some dye transfers may occur, especially if wet or damp.

“That said, we want every customer to have a positive wilko experience so, have in this instance given the customer a full refund on the cushions. When our customer care team was talking to the customer we also heard that the wet cover had transferred dye directly to the enamel radiator surface so we also offered to send a tin of radiator paint as a gesture of goodwill.”
