THE series finale of Channel 4’s 24 Hours in Police Custody shocked fans as cops quizzed a man accused of stalking his female pal.
Viewers were left trying to desperately work out who was lying as police probed whether a friendship had become an obsession.
Fans took to Twitter to vent their thoughts on the final case - with some claiming it was just a misunderstanding, and others convinced he had crossed a line.
Deborah had accused her former friend Kish of making her life hell, but he turned the tables and accused her of telling lies and actually stalking him.
One person tweeted: "Definitely not enough being done to protect victims of stalking. 24 hours in police custody has just proven that. Always left until it's too late."
Another said: "24 hours in police custody has my brain boggled... I don't know who to believe."
Stalking has been a criminal offence in England and Wales for five years but victims are still reluctant to go to the police.
In 94 per cent of cases where a woman is killed by a man, there has been stalking involved in the run up to that murder.
Deborah said: "I’ve always liked to think that I’ve been a good judge of character. I feel like I’ve been trampled over. It’s like somebody’s trying to take a part of me.
"And to cross those lines and those boundaries time after time, it’s just weird, it’s an intrusion. What is his motive? Where does he stop?
"Is he, is he that confused and twisted that he might consider doing something really bad?"
Kish was arrested but denied he is the stalker when interviewed by cops.
PC Jason Horne said: "It’s one of those crimes that can start from nothing, literally nothing, just someone sending you a couple of text messages.
"And then it ramps up. It can suddenly get out of hand and serious harm can come to our victim. And we want to get in there before it escalates. If we think there’s a risk, we think something might happen, we’ve got to act."
The alleged stalker, Kish, denied doing anything wrong and claimed he was just trying to help Deborah after her boyfriend died.
But she alleged that he would phone her up to seven times a day, following her in his car, and slash the tyres of her friends and family's cars.
Kish, who claimed she "tried it on” with him by coming round to his house and making tea, revealed his heartbreak at seeing his son cry when he was arrested.
Both phone and vehicle records failed to provide conclusive evidence, so the officers visited Deborah's home to see the gifts that she was supposedly showered with, including a "cringe" singing teddy bear.
She said: "He could shower me with gifts and, um, he could do all of the things that I wasn't able to do at home. The more I pushed him away the more intense he became.
"He was like a wolf in sheep’s clothing, you know. And that’s the bit that scares me, that’s the bit that worries me."
New evidence revealed that a year before their case Kish pleaded guilty to assaulting Debbie's friend Tina and got community service.
The pair alleged that Kish turned up drunk at Debbie's house and tried to enter, then knocked her over and assaulted Tina, reportedly shouting: "I'm going to f*** you up."
Kish adamantly denied the claims of shouting threats or damaging Deborah's mum's car, which had been scratched.
But the police caught him out when they found CCTV footage of him pulling into Debbie's driveway and "trespassing" for five minutes, before bail conditions were placed on him.
The cops showed Debbie 70 to 80 photos he took purely focused on her at a friend's wedding.
After they allowed Kish to take a look he initially said he didn't remember taking the photos then claimed she posed for them and she was telling a "pack of lies".
Debbie said: "I mean I consider myself a tough cookie. You know, I can, I can deal with most stuff but this thing going on every single day of my life… how do we deal with that?"
Kish said: "I learned a lesson now not to help anybody. The more you help the more you get yourself in trouble."
The Crown Prosecution Service said further evidence was needed before they would authorise a charge.
Because of that, the police had no choice but to release Kish on bail again, but it was revealed four months later he was charged with stalking after breaching bail.
When his case came to trial the magistrate decided there was insufficient evidence to proceed with the prosecution and the case was formally dismissed.
