Sadiq Khan reveals he was told to ‘blow himself up’ in vile abuse on social media while speaking in Texas
Mayor of London admitted that the abuse he receives has got worse since the US President Donald Trump attacked him on Twitter
LONDON Mayor Sadiq Khan was told to “blow himself up like all Muslims do to get his 12 virgins” it emerged - as he listed the vile abuse he receives daily.
In a keynote speech in Texas Britain’s first Muslim mayor told of a shocking catalogue of bile he endures as he slammed tech giants demanding they take hate speech seriously - or face massive fines.
He insisted social media giants must be “chivvied and cajoled” into action - and would never find the solutions to the problems themselves.
In Germany social media giants face fines unless they take down hate speech - an example Mr Khan said should be imported to Britain.
Speaking at the South by Southwest (SXSW) festival in Austin, Texas, he said his abuse had worsened following attacks from US President Donald Trump on Twitter.
He detailed messages he has received on the social media platform including one user who said: “I’d pay for someone to execute Sadiq Khan”.
Others wrote blatantly racist abuse like: “Deport all Muslims and make London white again, all problems will be gone.”
As he read them out to the audience he said the abuse would affect young people who would be out off entering politics in future.
He hit out: “I could go on and on, but I won’t.
“I don’t read these out to be portrayed as a victim, or to ask for sympathy.
