Police botched Rachel Nickell murder investigation after ‘falling in love with her’, Senior Scotland Yard detective admits

POLICE botched the probe into mum Rachel Nickell’s murder after “falling in love with her”, a top detective admits.

The 23-year-old was stabbed to death on London’s Wimbledon Common in 1992.

Colin Stagg, now 54, was falsely accused and later received £700,000 for wrongful prosecution.

In a new documentary, Scotland Yard’s Ron Turnbull — the first cop on the scene — agreed that some officers may have fallen for her looks.

He added: “There was a possibility it did affect decisions ultimately made by the senior officers.”
