Who killed Gianni Versace, was Andrew Cunanan caught by police and who else did he murder?
On July 15 1997, the fashion designer was gunned down outside his Miami villa by a crazed fantasist.
IN one of the most shocking celebrity murders in American history, Gianni Verace became the fifth victim of a 27-year-old serial killer.
But who was the murderer? And why did he choose to kill the world famous fashion designer?
Who killed Gianni Versace?
In 1997 Gianni Versace was shot twice on the steps of his Miami mansion by Andrew Cunanan, a 27-year-old "high-class" gay prostitute, who had carried out at least five random murders before this attack.
He was a homosexual himself and befriended wealthy older men whom he convinced to bankroll his lavish lifestyle.
But the exact motive for his murders remains unknown.
In 2013 an ex-mobster has claimed Versace was murdered by the Mafia over debts.
Giuseppe Di Bella says Versace, 50, was also used to launder cash.
But there is absolutely no evidence to prove this.
Was Andrew Cunanan caught?
Cunanan went into hiding after murdering Versace his last victim.
He holed himself up in a Miami houseboat for at least eight days after the killing.
With police closing in, he shot himself with the same semi-automatic piston he used in his killing spree.
Who else did he assassinate?
Apart from Versace, Cunanan killed four others.
On April 27, 1997, he murdered a pal from San Diego, Jeffrey Trail who was a former US naval officer and propane salesman.
After a row he beat Trail to death with a claw hammer.
He then rolled the body up in a rug in a cupboard in a loft-apartment belonging to David Madson who was his next victim.
Madson, was Cunanan's ex-lover, was shot on May 3 and his body was found on the east shore of Rush Lake near Rush City in Minnesota.

Cunanan next drove to Chicago and killed 72-year-old Lee Miglin, a prominent property developer, on May 4.
He stabbed him more than 20 times with a screwdriver and sawed his throat open with a hacksaw.
Following this murder, the FBI added Cunanan to its Ten Most Wanted list.
Five days later, Cunanan, who took Miglin's car, shot dead him fourth victim in Pennsville, New Jersey, at the Finn's Point National Cemetery, 45-year-old caretaker William Reese.
