British dad and daughter, 15, rescued from glacier after becoming lost overnight in -15C on Italian ski trip

Search teams said Gary Raine, 55, and Natalie, 13, were 'lucky to be alive' after spending the night in sub-zero temperatures

A SKI Brit was plucked to safety from a glacier with his schoolgirl daughter after rescuers spotted her bright pink jacket.

Gary Raine, 55, had got lost with 13-year-old Natalie at 9,000ft in Italy.

The pair were taken by helicopter to safety after they survived a night in -15C temperatures.

Last night they were back home in Bristol, where computer programmer Gary told how they kept moving to stay warm.

He said: “My daughter was the real heroine.

“She kept walking for 16 hours because I knew if we stopped we would be in trouble.”

Their hotel near the Presena Glacier, close to Italy’s border with Austria, reported them missing when they failed to return for dinner.

Gary said: “When I saw the helicopter I just burst into tears.

“I was stupid. We went the wrong way at the top of the glacier.

“I can’t believe how close I came to getting us killed.”
