A second weather warning for snow and ice is in place for much of the United Kingdom on Sunday.
Met Office forecaster Aidan McGivern said: “The rain across Northern Ireland and Scotland into the evening will push into the colder air which will mean we will see some sleet at lower levels, snow building up over the hills over central and southern Scotland and as well as the north of England.
“For a time most of this going through Saturday night into the start of Sunday leaves behind a legacy of icy patches, so you will have to look out for those first thing Sunday.
“A covering of snow as we begin Sunday across the higher grounds of the north of England and central and southern Scotland.
"Elsewhere a frost, but, sunny skies, and already we will start to see further wintery showers pushing into the west.
“So once we clear this weather front into the north sea, Sunday sees a brisk northwesterly breeze, follow these isobars back and you get to Arctic Canada and the air will be particularly cold during Sunday.”
