Schoolgirl, 11, who was stabbed at her gran’s Wolverhampton home dies in hospital as ‘male relative’, 51, arrested on suspicion of her murder

A 51-year-old man - thought to be a relative of Jasmine's - was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder this morning.

Medics battled for hours to save tragic Jasmine, who was left with multiple stab wounds and a serious head injury after the frenzied attack.

One resident, who did not want to be named, said: "I was awoken by the sound of the grandmother screaming. It was a horrific howling sound - she was just frantic.
"She was yelling, 'help me, help me - he has stabbed my young grandaughter'. It was really chilling.

"The police were here very quickly but the old lady looked inconsolable. I doesn't bear thinking about what she witnessed in that house."

Neighbour Gilda Chambers, 63, said: "It was about 1am when we heard the banging on the door.

"My son went and answered it. She was shouting and asking for help."My son Jason went and answered it. She was shouting and asking for help.

"She said [he's] attacked the little girl' and '[he] has attacked my granddaughter'.

"She was clearly very shocked, and she had an injury to her shoulder. It wasn't bleeding or nothing, but she was in a lot of pain."

The man is believed to be related to the child and is currently in hospital after suffering cuts to his hand.

Mrs Forrester, who is in her 80s, suffered a suspected dislocated shoulder during the incident and is also being treated in hospital.

Police have confirmed they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

Neighbours described Jasmine as a 'lovely' and 'bubbly' young girl who regularly stayed at her gran's house.

Natu Patel, 67, a local shopkeeper said: “I would see Jasmine everyday, she was like a daughter to me.

“She loved coming in to see us and would make us things little pictures to keep in the shop. I just can’t believe it. Why her? She is just so young."

Superintendent Harvi Khatkar, of West Midlands Police said: “This is an extremely distressing incident and we are working to establish exactly what has happened.

"We fully understand the impact that this will have on the community. But we do believe this is an isolated incident, and we are not looking for anyone else.”

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "Ambulance staff arrived to find an 11-year-old girl inside a property with multiple serious injuries.

"The girl was in a critical condition and ambulance staff worked quickly as a team to administer life-saving trauma care on scene before she was taken by land ambulance on blue lights to hospital; the doctor travelled with the ambulance

crew to continue vital treatment en route.

"An elderly woman was also assessed and treated on scene after suffering less serious injuries before being taken to hospital for further checks."

Police were called after a neighbour reported hearing a disturbance inside the house.

The house has been cordoned off and forensics officers are currently at the scene as an investigation gets underway.
