Two Sainsbury’s workers ‘bagged £500,000 through sham marriages’
Ayaz Khan, 32, and Jurgita Pavlovskyte, 25, allegedly set up mainly Lithuanian women allowed to live in Britain with at least 13 men, most from Pakistan
TWO Sainsbury’s workers bagged £500,000 through sham marriages, a court heard yesterday.
Ayaz Khan, 32, and Jurgita Pavlovskyte, 25, allegedly set up mainly Lithuanian women allowed to live in Britain with at least 13 men, most from Pakistan.
The pair, a married couple who are now separated, forged Sainsbury’s job offers to bolster residency applications, the Old Bailey was told.
Khan and Pavlovskyte claim the marriages were genuine. Yet just two of the 13 couples wed between 2011 and 2014 are still together.
Prosecutor Tom Forster told jurors Khan’s bank accounts showed payments totalling £297,000, with another £238,000 in Pavlovskyte’s bank account.
Khan, of Ilford, East London, and Pavlovskyte, of Barking, deny charges including consiracy to assist unlawful immigration and acquiring criminal property.
Two others deny conspiracy.
Four more deny assisting unlawful immigration. The trial continues.
