£1m Lotto winner cheated £5K in benefits after failing to report jackpot win

The 59-year-old was charged in 2014, vanished until he was found in December 2016 and then was fined £300

A £1MILLION lottery winner fraudulently claimed £5,000 in benefits after failing to report his win.

Frank Henry, too ill to work, continued to receive housing and employment support allowance for nearly seven months until authorities were tipped off.

The 59-year-old vanished when charged in 2014 but was tracked down in December 2016.

Last week Henry, of Mill Hill, North London, was finally convicted of fraud through failing to tell the Department for Work and Pensions and Barnet Council of his win on the Irish Lotto.

Magistrates heard an accident in 2006 had left him with memory problems.

Henry insisted he had informed the DWP and was repaying the cash.

He was fined £300 with £620 costs.
