His wife Lainey Hunt has now accused defence chiefs for failing to properly support her husband, who was just 39 when the impacts of war became too much.

, the grieving widow said: "He sought help but said the Army's mental health services were useless."

She said that her husband, who was decorated for his bravery after saving lives in Afghanistan, did not know who to turn to as he struggled with PTSD.

She added: "Nathan felt like the system let him down and he didn't know who to turn to."

Mrs Hunt, who herself is a Warrant Officer with 32 Engineer Regiment, revealed that the 39-year-old had struggled constantly being given a new doctor when he moved regiments, meaning he would have to start from scratch.

WO Hunt struggled with depression and mood swings, leading to the couple to divorce in 2014.

But Mrs Hunt said: "He wanted to protect us. We broke up but we never separated. He was still my best friend. I still loved him very much and I always will."

WO Hunt's father also blamed Government cuts, saying Nathan did not receive the help he needed on returning.

His body was found in his home city, Lincoln, at the start of this year, with the couple's daughter Megan telling mourners at her father's funeral "close together or far apart, my daddy will always be in my heart."

His death is the second to hit Harry’s squad.

Cpl James Dunsby, 31, died after collapsing during an SAS selection march in Wales in 2013.

The MoD told the paper: "We take the mental health of our Armed Forces very seriously, and work tirelessly to ensure our troops and veterans receive the care they deserve.

"We are committed to tackling the stigma of mental illness."

They added: "Personnel already have 24-hour access to effective services they need in an emergency."
