Ex-PM David Cameron spotted wearing Peaky Blinders flat cap again – but who is he copying?

It was the second time this week he was seen donning the fashion accessory after tourists spotted him in a similar hat at Disneyland Paris

DAVID Cameron looks to be auditioning for a part on Peaky Blinders as he wears an oversized flat cap for a day at the races.

The former prime minister was pictured with wife Samantha at the Heythorp Hunt Point to Point in Cocklebarrow, Gloucestershire.

It was the second time this week he was seen donning the fashion accessory after tourists spotted him in a similar hat at Disneyland Paris.

The former Prime Minister confirmed it really was him snapped at the theme park last week, saying he took his children while wife Samantha was working in the French capital.

After his new hat raised eyebrows and some unfortunate comparisons, the 51-year-old said he only bought it to keep “warm and dry” – and wasn’t inspired by BBC’s Birmingham crime drama.

The headgear is worn by characters in the 1920s-set gangster drama, starring Cillian Murphy and Tom Hardy.

Mr Cameron has confirmed indeed it was, writing to  to say: “Yes. Sam doing clothing business stuff in Paris, so I took the kids over for mixture of Picasso museum and Disney.”

He also joked he wasn’t trying to imitate the former RMT leader Bob Crow, adding: “It rained a lot so I bought a hat!

“I haven’t joined the Peaky Blinders, or become Bob Crow, just trying to stay warm and dry.”
