'IT LOOKED LIKE AN ACID ATTACK'

Tot left with horrific burns after wearing new Huggies nappy

Three-year-old Sophia woke up screaming with pain on Monday, with her parents shocked when they realised she had painful rashes where her nappy had been sitting

A TOT has been left screaming in pain after waking up with painful, acid-like burns that her parents claim were caused by her nappy.

Three-year-old Sophia woke up on Monday morning with the blistering sores, with parents Michael and Gemma Free immediately rushing her to the doctors.

Now the parents have been left furious after contacting Huggies and being offered a £10 to compensate for the traumatic experience.

Speaking to the Sun Online, dad Michael said: “Just after 7am when we got up for her to go to nursery, we took the nappy off her and it was soaking wet.

“We took it off and my wife said ‘oh what’s happened, look at this'.

“She was really, really bright red, it looked like acid had been poured over her.”

The concerned parents, of Jump, Barnsley, took their three-year-old to the doctors, with the young girl prescribed anti-biotics and given bandages.

Michael said: “She has been wearing these Dry Nites before, but she hasn’t ever really used them that much.

“What I think has happened is she must have fallen asleep and weed then laid in it through the night, and the moisture has brought the chemical out.”

He said he called Huggies to complain and said he was given a list of three substances: Polypropylene, polyacrylate and polyethylene, and told to get his daughter tested for allergies to them.

The substances are not inherently dangerous.

They were also told to get the tot tested for allergies for virgin wood fibres.

The 41-year-old said: "She's been in so much pain, it's been horrendous."

It comes after other parents flagged concerns

A Huggies spokesperson said: At Kimberly-Clark, nothing is more important to us that the safety and well-being of the families who use our products. We take concerns about our products extremely seriously, which is why we are working directly with the father and awaiting further information so that we can conduct a full and rigorous investigation into what has happened and how we can help.

"Our DryNites Pants are formulated for babies and children and accordingly we take the utmost care to ensure we manufacture high quality products that are thoroughly evaluated by product safety and medical professionals so they are safe to use.

"Please be assured that this is a very unusual situation."
