Grieving Simon Thomas posts heartbreaking message to his son on his birthday
Grieving Sky Sports presenter says today will be the 'unhappiest' of days as he turns 45
GRIEVING dad Simon Thomas has described his first birthday since losing his wife as “the unhappiest” of days in a poignant note to his son.
The Sky Sports Presenter turns 45 today and marked to occasion with a message to eight-year-old Ethan that he shared on social media.
He wrote: “Today is going to be the unhappiest of birthdays for Daddy with Mummy no longer here.
“But, know this my dear boy. You make me so happy and I love you more than all the Lego in the world.”
It follows a similarly tender note yesterday where he reminded his son “we’re in this together”.
He revealed that Ethan was “missing mummy”, with the pair still struggling to come to terms with the sudden loss of Gemma to cancer last year.
In the note, Simon wrote: "I know last night you said you're missing mummy so much - so is Daddy.
"But remember we're in this together and #TeamThomas never gives up! Daddy xx"
He revealed: "A guy called Dan Ritchie, who I have yet to meet (but will) had seen my notes for Ethan and felt I needed some too, to encourage me and help me keep going when I feel like giving up.
"So he’s written me a daily note too - for every single day of the coming year! That's #lightinthedarkness right there."
Last month, the host shared his son's letter to Father Christmas - in which the youngster asked for Playmobil, Lego and "mummy back".
He posted a picture of the letter on Instagram, writing: "I just wish I could give him the third."
He added the hashtags: "#heartbreaking #lightinthedarkness".
