The newspaper claims hostesses dressed in skimpy black outfits with matching underwear and high heels were groped, propositioned and subjected to lewd remarks by diners:

  • Hostesses reported men repeatedly putting hands up their skirts and one said an attendee exposed his penis to her.
  • Other hostesses were said to have been asked up to attendees' bedrooms in the hotel and one was reportedly asked if she was a prostitute.
  • One charity auction lot included a course of plastic surgery with the offer to: "Add spice to your wife".
  • After the auction, one hostess was allegedly grabbed by a guest and told: "I want you to down that glass (of champagne), rip your knickers off and dance on that table".

Those who worked the event were said to have been encouraged to drink by attendees, with one man overheard telling a worker: "You look far too sober" before grabbing her and filling up her glass.

The reporter said that during her six hours there "many of the hostesses were subjected to groping, lewd comments and repeated requests to join diners in bedrooms elsewhere in the Dorchester";.

The event has been running for 33 years, raising millions for charities, and was hosted by comedian David Walliams. There is no suggestion he was involved in wrongdoing.

What is the Presidents Club Charity Dinner?

The Presidents Club Charity Dinner has been a fixture in London's high-society social calendar for 33 years.

It is highly-exclusive and despite raising millions for charity, little has been previously reported on it.

Last Thursday, this year's event was held at The Dorchester Hotel in central London.

The event was attended by around 360 guests including politicians, businessmen, chief executives and film producers.

Auction items included lunch with Boris Johnson and afternoon tea with Bank of England governor Mark Carney.

TV presenter Jonathan Gould is reported to have taken to the stage to open the event, announcing: "Welcome to the most un-PC event of the year".

Other men were seen sitting while holding the hands of women stood next to their tables before some are said to have pulled women into their laps.

One hostess said: "I’ve never done this before, and I’m never doing it again.

"It’s f***ing scary."

A statement from the Dorchester Hotel read: "We are unaware of any allegations and should we be contacted we will work with the relevant authorities as necessary."

The event was organised by The Presidents Club.

Responding to the allegations, the group said: "The Presidents Club recently hosted its annual dinner, raising several million pounds for disadvantaged children.

"The organisers are appalled by the allegations of bad behaviour at the event asserted by the Financial Times reporters. Such behaviour is totally unacceptable.

"The allegations will be investigated fully and promptly and appropriate action taken."

-In a previous version of this article we incorrectly referred to Jonny Gould, the broadcaster as attending The Presidents Club on January 23. He did not attend and we apologise for the distress caused.
