Holocaust: The Revenge plot – Channel 4 film focuses on a secret group who plotted to kill millions of Germans by poisoning water supplies

A STARTLING new documentary will reveal never-before-seen evidence about a plot by a group of death camp survivors to poison millions of Germans in vengeance for the Holocaust.

Here's the remarkable true story which will be told on Channel 4 TONIGHT.

What is Holocaust: The Revenge Plot about?

The Channel 4 film -  Holocaust: The Revenge Plot - revolves around tapes of a Jewish resistance fighter called Abba Kovner who carefully detailed his recollections of the plan.

The tapes were recorded in 1985 when Kovner was dying from cancer and tell of the 1946 plans to poison the water supplies in several German cities.

They also reveal details of a second plot to kill thousands of SS officers being holed-up in an American prisoner camp.

Kovner reveals how his secret organisation the Nakam - Hebrew for vengeance - infiltrated the waterworks of Hamburg, Nuremberg, Frankfurt, and Munich to poison the supplies with arsenic.

It tells the extraordinary story of the secret organisation of Holocaust survivors who were known as the Avengers.

They attempted to carry out the ultimate act of revenge – the indiscriminate murder of six million Germans as retribution for the six million Jews exterminated by the Nazis.

The Avengers were led by Kovner, who later went on to become a famous Israeli poet.

The film features testimony from the last surviving members of the group.

They include Auschwitz survivor Yehuda Maimon, Simcha Rotem - the last survivor of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, and Hasia Warshawski - a woman so traumatised by events she shares her memories in this film for the first time

Now in their 90s, each tells their horrific experiences under the Nazis.

All had lost family and witnessed horrors, as Yehuda Friedman says, “that not even the devil can imagine”.

Also featured is Chaim Miller, a soldier in the British Army’s Jewish Brigade, who acted as part of a vigilante group.

What time is Holocaust: The Revenge Plot on?

The film will be screened TONIGHT, Saturday, January 27 at 9pm on Channel 4 to mark Holocaust Memorial Day.

The film is packed with incredible revelations including:

• How the Avenger agents infiltrated the waterworks of four German cities - Hamburg, Nuremberg, Frankfurt and Munich - in order to poison the water supplies
• How two future presidents of Israel, Chaim Weizmann and Efraim Katzir were claimed to have been involved in helping the Avengers acquire the poison
• How a second attempt at mass murder - targeting some 50,000 SS officers held in POW camps in Nuremberg and Munich - may have partially succeeded
