The MP for Great Yarmouth was promoted during Theresa May's January reshuffle

BRANDON Lewis MP was recently appointed Chairman of the Conservative Party.

Who is Brandon Lewis?

Brandon Lewis was born in Harold Wood, London in 1971 and attended the private Forest School in Walthamstow.

He then went to Buckingham University where he studied economics and law before doing a masters at King's College London.

After university he became a barrister.

When did he go into politics?

Lewis became a Tory councillor in Brentwood, Essex in 1998 before going on the lead the local Conservative group in 2002.

He was leader of the council between 2004 and 2009 during which time he co-hosted a regional radio show with local MP Eric Pickles.

The 46-year-old stood for election as MP for Great Yarmouth in 2010, taking the seat from Labour.

Lewis then served on the  Work and Pensions Select Committee and the Regulatory Reform Select Committee until 2012.

When did he become a minister?

He was made a junior minister in the Department for Communities and Local Government in 2012 before being promoted to Minister of State for Housing in 2014.

In 2016 he was moved to the Home Office and promoted to the Privy Council.

This January he was made Chairman of the Conservative Party following the resignation of Sir Patrick McLoughlin and appointed minister without portfolio.
