Amir Khan posts cryptic message days after receiving death threat over Christmas tree
BOXER Amir Khan has posted a cryptic message to Instagram just days after he received a death threat for putting up a Christmas tree.
The champion fighter, who is a practising Muslim, was targeted by online threats after sharing a video of a tree decorated in lights for his three-year-old daughter Lamaisah.
The 31-year-old returned to social media last night with the message: "Actions prove who someone is, words just prove who they want to be."
The cryptic post, which accompanied a picture of Khan in a suit at a red carpet event, received a mixed reaction.
One user reminded Khan of his time in the I'm a Celebrity jungle writing: "Obviously your actions in the jungle eating those strawberries, show you are an inconsiderate, greedy and definitely not a team player."
Others tweeted messages of support telling Khan: "Don't take any notice of the haters ".
Earlier thius week Khan received a barrage of abuse after telling his 1.2million followers on Instagram: “While everyone’s asleep, daddy put the Christmas tree up.
"Lamaisah’s going to be happy #Christmas#MerryChristmas2017.”
But the Bolton-born fighter was bombarded with threats.
One ranted: “I promise to god i want kill you and your family amir.”
Another said: "You mut be dead and your family will be death i promise and allah must promise i and allah see you and check you your angel death came too see you
One ranted: "Muslims don't celebrate Christmas.
"It's one thing to give out cards at school your respecting other faith and their celebration but putting up a tree in your own home....poor kid will be well confused."
But scores of fans rushed to the defence of the sports star, who appeared on I'm A Celebrity in the Australian jungle last month.
Many Muslims in the UK celebrate Christmas as Jesus is recognised as a prophet in their religion.
One wrote: “Unbelievable how cynical everyone is for Daddy Amir who clearly stated that his intention in putting up the tree was to make his daughter happy.
"His intentions aren’t to attend mass in any church!
“Can someone applaud this gentleman for simply working hard as a provider father who has perhaps already set up the nursery and bought tons of gifts for Lamaisah and for the unborn baby.”
Another fan said: "You're a good man don't listen to the morons."
One added: “Half you lot commenting gnna be out christmas eve partying and counting down to christmas at midnight in the club lol.”
Last year Khan said the mosque was his "favourite place to go", adding: "I am not afraid of saying I am a Muslim.
