Woman’s horror as lover kills 24 of her beloved fish – and blinds the rest
Ian Perkins, 53, poured five litres of cleaning fluid into a pool of 30 fish
A BOYFRIEND poisoned 24 of his partner’s Koi carp worth £10,000 in a row after a night out.
Ian Perkins, 53, poured five litres of cleaning fluid into a pool of 30 fish as Diane Kenton, 63, watched in horror.
She, daughter Charlie and a neighbour put the bleeding shoal in a bath to save them. Six lived but were blinded.
Diane said last night: “It was like a murder scene, with blood coming from their mouths and gills.
“Police were horrified at all the blood.”
Bike mechanic Perkins yesterday got four months’ jail, suspended for 1½ years.
He killed the Koi after she rapped him for texting in her garden — and then refused to join him on a London-Brighton charity ride the next day.
Diane, of Hayes, West London, had owned some for 30 years. The businesswoman, who ended her 16-year romance over the horror, recalled: “I said I wasn’t going on the ride.
“He held the bottle over the pond and said, ‘Say you’re going, or else’.
“Then he poured it all in. I was screaming. He knew how much pride and joy those fish gave me.
“Some belonged to my late father and had sentimental value. They were part of the family.”
Charlie, 29, added: “We’ve shed tears and people brought flowers.
“My mother cried like I’ve never seen before as the bath filled with blood. We’ve not had a bath since then.”
Perkins admitted criminal damage and told Isleworth crown court, West London: “I’m sorry.” He must pay £1,000 compensation and go to therapy and rehab.
