Prince Harry takes over from grandad Philip as Captain General of the Royal Marines as he vows to continue Diana’s mission to rid the world of landmines
After his two tours of Afghanistan and his work with forces heroes, including through the Invictus Games, Harry is sure to be a hit with the Commandos
The Duke of Edinburgh paid tribute to the green berets with his final engagement, meeting veterans at Buckingham Palace.
After his two tours of Afghanistan and his work with forces heroes, including through the Invictus Games, Harry is sure to be a hit with the Commandos.
The announcement came as he called for the international community to clear the world of landmines, 20 years on from his mother's brave crusade against the weapons.
Prince Harry said in video message released on Tuesday night: "Twenty years ago this year, my mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, walked through a cleared minefield in Angola."
Harry added: "She witnessed first hand the pain and suffering of those whose lives and limbs had been destroyed by landmines.
"As she comforted children waiting patiently for their prosthetic legs, parliaments, non-government organisations and campaigners around the world came together to find a way to stop the killing and maiming for good.
"The result was a treaty designed to rid the world of landmines for ever."
