Morrisons to match money given to The Sun’s Smiles At Christmas appeal to help kids with cancer

Imogen Cooney, whose mum Natasha works for the supermarket, was diagnosed with a rare eye cancer when she was just 19-months-old

EVERY parent dreads hearing that their child has cancer.

Natasha Cooney was told her daughter Imogen, now three, had a rare cancer of the eye when she was just 19 months old.

The diagnosis meant she was at risk of losing her sight even if she survived.

Throughout Imogen’s battle, Natasha was supported by CLIC Sargent.

Now she is urging readers to donate to our Smiles At Christmas appeal with CLIC Sargent.

Morrisons — where Natasha works with her mum Sheila — has generously agreed to match each Pound our loyal readers donate between now and Sunday.

Natasha, 26, from Carmarthen, says: “I can’t tell you what a fabulous charity CLIC Sargent is and how much of a difference they can make to a family with a child who has cancer.

“I’m proud my employer is backing The Sun’s Christmas appeal to help families like mine.

“Every penny will make a difference. Please hurry and give what you can soon so the amount will be doubled.”

Your donations will help fund specialist children’s cancer nurses and places to stay for parents whose kids are being treated in hospitals far from home.

They will also help provide a familiar face for distressed mums and dads, as well as kids who need comfort.

Imogen’s diagnosis came after Natasha noticed a dark spot in her right eye that continued to grow.

She needed radiation plaque therapy at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, 170 miles from her home in Wales, to rid her of the tumour and save her sight.

Nan Sheila said: “You never think about kids having cancer, especially babies. It has a devastating impact on family life.

“Finding the money for the cost of petrol for the hospital appointments was hard but CLIC Sargent stepped in to help. We would have been lost without them.

“I am thrilled Morrisons has pledged to match Sun readers’ donations. It will make a massive difference.”
