The horrible extent of the injuries to the child has sparked comparisons with the 2012 Delhi bus rape that caused world-wide revulsion almost five years ago.

Raging residents of Hisar and Uklana shut their shops and protested by blocking the roads, demanding the culprits are brought to justice.

The girl’s family are refusing to cremate the body  until the murder is arrested.

"It's been 24 hours and the police are yet to catch anyone," the child’s mum told BBC India.

Meanwhile the government has formed a special investigative team as public pressure mounts on authorities to catch those response.

India has been plagued by a series of horrific sex attacks that have drawn furious protests.

In October, capital New Delhi was named the worst city in the world for sexual violence against women.

Highlighting the problem during that month, it emerged that CALLOUS onlookers watched and even filmed the alleged rape of a woman by a sex attacker in broad daylight.

Instead of coming to the terrified victim’s rescue, dozens merely filmed the horrific scene in the Indian city of Visakhapatnam.
