DETECTIVES have arrested a 14-year-old boy on suspicion of stabbing a teenager to death near a primary school.
The victim, 15, was found collapsed near Hurst Drive Primary School in Waltham Cross, Hertfordshire on Thursday night. Paramedics tried to save him but he died at the scene.
A Hertfordshire Police spokesman said: "A 14-year-old boy from London was arrested on suspicion of murder. He has been released under investigation while enquiries continue."
A resident, who would only give his name as John, said: "We heard a noise at about 8pm but nothing we thought as strange.
"It was only when I went to bed I thought, ‘why are there lights out there'. You’re used to sirens around here now.
"The only reason I look is because my van gets broken into once every two or three months. ‘The helicopter was going around, it was a big response."
Darren Boorman, 48, who lives about eight doors away from the cordon, "All I saw was an armed police officer in the street, he had a rifle. It was about 10pm. There were a lot more unarmed police as well and a helicopter flying about."
Hertfordshire Police launched a murder inquiry after the horror attack.
They are now appealing for witnesses and working closely with the victim's family to establish what happened.
A spokesman said: "Officers were called at 9:30pm yesterday to Hurst Drive, Waltham Cross, to reports of a stabbing. The victim, a 15-year-old boy, was treated by paramedics but was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
